Supporting Western Alaska’s recovery. Donate, volunteer, and stay informed.

In response to Typhoon Halong’s devastation, local organizations and regional partners have united to create the Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund at the Alaska Community Foundation— guided by community leaders to ensure resources reach those who need them most.

FAQs

At this time, we’re only able to accept new clothing donations. Our limited storage and volunteer capacity make it difficult to sort, clean, and distribute used items, and we want to ensure everything we provide can go directly and safely to those in need.

Currently, there isn’t a need for host families. We deeply appreciate the many generous offers to open homes, but most families affected by the storm are choosing to stay with friends and relatives. What they need most right now is support for those hosting them — things like groceries, diapers, and household supplies to help lighten the load on families already providing shelter and care.

Not right now. We’re so grateful for the many thoughtful offers to lead yoga, art, meditation, and other activities that will be important down the road. At this stage, shelters are focused on meeting basic needs and keeping the environment secure and stable for families who’ve been displaced. We currently lack the capacity to manage outside programming.
As recovery continues, you’ll have opportunities to share your skills and support in meaningful ways. We’ll share updates when that time comes!

This will be a long-term recovery effort. The organizations supporting Western Alaska today will still be here in the weeks and months ahead. Right now, the best way to help is by donating money to trusted organizations already on the ground. Financial gifts allow them to meet urgent needs quickly and adjust as conditions change.
If you’d like to give supplies, check the list of approved drop-off sites on this page.
We’re also grateful for the many offers to volunteer. As recovery continues, more opportunities will open — you won’t miss your chance to help. Thank you for your patience and your generosity!
